Evaluation-2

Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Because our film comes under the genre of 'horror', it does not have any particular social group. This genre was designed to frighten an audience and to create fear within them and build up on suspense. So, does not fit into any typical social groups.

Our film can although, be comparable to a few already existing 'horror' themed films. Popular ones such as The Grudge, Saw, The Ring, Orphan and The Shinning.

Here is an image of the little girl from The Ring, she plays a main role in the film, we have compared her with the little girl from our own film. Samara is the name of the little girl (left), and the little girl from our film (me) is on the right. There are similarities of both of these characters as they both have been traumatized in the past, both by adults, Samara by her parents and the little girl in out film by the strange man at the parents funeral trying to comfort her. This makes them become very 'messed up' and distorted. In return to this both of the little girls take revenge on their trauma's. Samara makes a video tape, which, when watched will kill you in seven days, killing her mother. However, the little girl in our film follows the man until he becomes a nervous and paranoid wreck, until, finally brutally murdering him whilst walking his dog in the woods.

The costumes are also similar, as they are both wearing white dresses, showing purity of a child, contrasting with the evil that is within them. They both have dark tired looking eyes and hair over their face's as well creating an effect that the characters are very closed in and want to hide away from everyone and everything.

There are however, differences between these two main characters as they play different roles according to the storyline. But the appearance is very much alike, apart from the blood on the white dress of the little girl in our film, there is no blood on Samara's white dress in The Ring.
